History
In the mid 1950’s the local community recognised a lack of social facilities in the area. After lengthy discussions a building was erected on the present site by the Peerless Company which was shared with the South Harefield’s Residents Association for sports and social activities.
The Harefield Community Association was formed and registered as a charity in May 1967, which was organised by families living in the local area.
It was soon recognised that the building was too small and the council were approached for funding to build an extension. They agreed to pay 50% of the costs if the Community Association raised the rest. After much hard work fundraising the extension, which doubled the size of the Centre, was opened in 1977 and then there were later additions of an office and storeroom.
In September 2015 major refurbishments were funded and completed by the Chrysalis Fund, which can be seen in the before and after photos on the news page. They show the greatly improved facilities, which should ensure the future of the Centre.
